One of Colorado’s favorite honeymoon locations, the Colorado Springs area is a popular place to go after your elopement or wedding ceremony. Honeymoon packages are available at the world famous Broadmoor Hotel, or stay in nearby Manitou Springs at the foot of the mighty Pikes Peak (14,110′). Honeymoon ideas abound here.
This destination wedding location offers easy access to the incredibly beautiful and world-praised Air Force Academy, the cog railrod and auto road up Pike’s Peak (where you can see 30,000 square miles of land beneath you), Seven Falls (the only Colorado waterfall to make the National Geographic list of international waterfalls), Garden of the Gods (a sandstone playground), Cave of the Winds, the World Arena and Olympic Complex where the next Olympic champions get their training, and of course great restaurants, shopping, golfing, and spas.
Just 75 miles from the Denver/Golden area, Colorado Springs is an easy drive south on Highway 25 and is also a jumping off point for day trips to Canon City (where you’ll find the world’s highest bridge), Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, beautiful hikes, colorful Paint Mines State Park, some of Colorado’s tastiest restaurants, and much more.
Filled with the wonders of nature, the Garden of the Gods was dedicated in 1909 and is a free city park. An abundance of plant and animal life can be found though out its 1,340 acres, as well as the magnificent red sandstone rock formations, for which the Garden is best known. Many of these are over 300 million years old and were sculpted through time by erosion.
In 1879, Charles Perkins, president of the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad, purchased much of the land now known as the Garden of the Gods. After his death, at his request, his family gave the land to the City of Colorado Springs to be used as a park. The stipulations included that it be known as Garden of the Gods and it would remain free forever to all visitors.
